So you're probably scratching your head now, going "What in the hell is 'Heavee Meddle Karma Sutra'"?
Its not a bird!
Its not a plane!
Its not a sex position ( though it OUGHT TO be!!)
It is literally a patchwork-junkyard title made up from four different elements of random coincidence, occurring at the time of my first recorded take of the song which was:
1)-An old Playboy from the mid-late 70s laying about open to a Kama Sutra Book ad:
2)-A CD of Pink Floyd's 'Meddle' album likewise laying about
3)-My always present (at this time at least!), almost ALWAYS in use, good ol black 'n' orange Boss Heavy Metal Guitar FX pedal & finally,
4)-Listening to Instant Karma on the radio at this same said time!
As you can probably already tell, being as I have more takes of this song than any of my other ones (and that's NOT counting my re-working it into two different acoustic versions & a sonic collage of various overdubs to previous takes), this song has been a lunatic obsession of mine from the moment of creation!
And speaking of OBSESSIONS......
....I was so transfixed by the sound of the first Electric Rhythm Guitar I did for the first take of this (you can clearly hear it towards the end of the Karma Flashbackwards blurb!), that out of the next 30 or so takes I did, it ended up being transferred to about 28 of them!
The actual guitar track itself!
Now, on all my 4 track takes & the first few takes on my R+R, this was not a problem, since the drums were tracked and would get transferred w/ said ERG to stereo & then bounced back to two tracks & it would get built up from there!
But then around about the time of my third, or fourth take on R+R, I had gotten a new drum machine (The Roland R8, replacing my Korg DDD-5), and was finally taking the time to learn how to program patterns into a sequence, which was something I never with the Korg, where I would just use preset Rhythm Patterns, & usually controlling Intro, Fill & Ending Patterns w/Foot Pedals while laying down the first guitar of a song, then bouncing around more percussion/drum Overdubs manually on top of it all.
Plus, I also began to experiment w/the wonders of tape sync!
I worked up a pretty good approximation of the overall Korg tracks onto a seq. on the R8, & then one day, I got it into my head, that just for the Hell of it, I was going to record it onto two open tracks of my most current take on R+R that I was working on & see if I could get it to sync to the original Korg tracks! Incredibly & UNBELIEVABLY enough, they ACTUALLY DID!! ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT!
BUT I didn't have the foresight to also lay a tape sync signal onto another open track at the same time! BUT WAIT! Now the cheese gets even MORE binding!
After a few years of constantly re-using this permutation of the transferred RG & the synced (but not TAPE synced!) Roland Drums for subsequent takes, I got it into my head that I was gonna attempt yet again to get a sync signal off the Roland seq.to match the tempo of the Org.Korg drum tx, which brought on a feeble 3 month on again, off again ludicrous exercise in abject futility & frustration!
Made about three or four in this time, the last one was the closest to success w/ only minor fluctuations, which never the less worked, AND I did it directly onto the original 4tx.cassette itself, since I was starting to have speed fluctuations & edge track dropouts on my R+R, so after getting it supposedly fixed, and yet STILL having problems with it, I finally decided to trade it in for an ADAT! Then after a few more years of transferring that ol ERG & the slightly-but not quite out of-sync sync signal to ADAT & yadayadayadaing it to death, I got a Data Sync2 box, and finally said the heck with it, once & for all!!
But despite my often best attempts at sabotaging it, this is probably my most potentially "commer
